Meet Katie H, one of our Certified Veterinary Technicians. Katie has worked at Frontier since April 2011.

Hi Katie! Do you go by Katie or do you have any nicknames?

I go by Katie most of the time. My husband likes to call me Kathryn, and my grandmother used to call me Kate. Here at Frontier, I’m Katie H. (I was the second Katie to join our team- we now have 3!) or just KH.

In your words, what is your job at Frontier? Any special projects or responsibilities?

I split my time between Outpatient (OP) and Inpatient (IP), but my main focus as a technician at Frontier is always patient care. As an OP technician, I get to assist the doctors with their appointments by carrying out the treatment plans for each pet – giving vaccines, collecting blood or urine samples, trimming toenails and so on. I also help take care of ICU patients, making sure they are clean, medicated and eating appropriately so they can be reunited with their families. As an IP Technician, I do a lot of dental cleanings but also assist the doctor with surgeries and monitor anesthesia for them.

Why did you decide to work at Frontier?

I have worked as a veterinary technician for nearly 12 years. Every day as I drove to work at another clinic in the area, I watched this building being built and thought someday I would love to work at such a beautiful facility. Then that day came when I decided I needed to make a change, and I have loved every minute of it. The staff here is amazing, too! Everyone gets along so well, and we really work as a team making sure every patient gets the care that they deserve.

Do you have any pets?

I share my house with two cats and one dog. My dog is an 8-year-old red and white Pitbull named Shania. She is the sweetest dog and is really my son’s dog as they are inseparable. Mischief is a 6-year-old long -haired gray tabby, who is more of my husband’s cat than mine. And then there’s Criminal, a 4-year-old black and white long-haired pain-in-the-you-know-what, but we love him. Someday he will grow out of the kitten stage… we hope.

Tell us a little-known fact about you!

I train and show miniature horses in driving, obstacles, jumping and halter. I grew up on a horse farm just outside of Hillsboro and spend many of my days off there. It’s so much fun to get the opportunity to share my love of horses with my three young children. We are hoping to have a successful show season this year!
