Do you have any nicknames?
Like quite a few Jessicas, I often go by “Jess” or “Jessie.” When I was little I was “Messy Jessie,” which I’m glad to have left behind. And then there’s “Meatball,” which isn’t very flattering but I actually don’t mind. Meatballs FTW!
In your words, what is your job at Frontier?
First and foremost, I consider myself a patient advocate. I’m the one who makes sure that your furry family member enjoys as pain and stress-free of a visit as possible. I mostly work on the outpatient side of things, so I’m the one who takes care of your pet when you come in for an appointment with a doctor. This involves anything from administering vaccines, collecting blood and urine samples, doing sedated wound treatments, placing bandages, taking radiographs and performing supportive care treatments, like administering fluids and various injections. And I won’t lie, there’s also a fair bit of cuddling and cooing over the cuteness of your pet!
Why did you decide to work at Frontier?
When I was interviewing at potential clinics, I was immediately struck by the team atmosphere and camaraderie at Frontier. Having worked retail in the distant past, I definitely know the benefits of being surrounded by coworkers who band together to get the job done. Coworkers who have your back and trust you to have theirs as well. Everyone here at Frontier, from the front desk to the treatment room to the DVMs, is so helpful and willing to pitch in. Their support and work ethic and passion are an inspiration every day. … plus, they’re my kinda weird, haha! 🙂
Do you have any pets?
I currently have one cat, a tabby DSH named Sherlock Holmes. He’s been with me for nearly all of his 9 years; I adopted him when he was just a tiny handful. He lives up to his namesake- constantly investigating, whether it’s the bathroom cupboards or the unknown regions under the couch or the bowl of food I’ve just sat down with. There are times when his constant curiosity gets a little annoying, especially at 3:00 a.m., but I love his fuzzy butt all the same.
Tell us a little known fact about you!
I was born in Switzerland and all of my family, aside from my mum, dad and little brother, live there. During the long summer breaks when my brother and I were in grade school we’d go back for a month or so at a time and spend time with our family, exploring our beautiful country. I still consider Switzerland home, despite living in Southern California and now Oregon for most of my life. I’ve you’re ever interested in learning more about Switzerland, I’ll talk your ear off! Perhaps in Swiss-German! In my spare time I enjoy going to the movies (especially Marvel ones, I’m a pretty big comic nerd), doing outdoorsy things like hiking, camping or fishing, and discovering fun new places to eat or enjoy a beer. I’m also an avid bookworm, have been since I was little, and am always looking for suggestions for my next read!
